Cricketer Cup Final 2014 Preview
Cranleigh have made to their second final in two years and third in eight. Having narrowly lost to Tonbridge last year, they will be anxious to secure a first Cup win over three time previous winners Bradfield. Bradfield who dominated the 90s with the likes of Mark Nicholas and the Kendall brothers will be without their talisman, Will Kendall, who tragically broke his collar bone in the semi-final having steadied the ship earlier with his professional batting application. Their sprinkling of minor counties players will no doubt prove a tough hurdle for an almost full strength Cranleigh side. In what might be seen as a gesture of fair play following the withdrawal of Will Kendall, Cranleigh have dropped Surrey and England paceman, Stuart Meaker but take the field with an otherwise full strength side including two Kenyan internationals – Seren Waters and Duncan Allen. Complimented by 5 other players with 1st class/county 2nd XI experience they represent a force to be reckoned with.
The final will once again be held at Wimbledon Cricket Club starting at 11.30.It will be a 50 over game with lunch between innings. Crowds and families are welcome with a Bouncy Castle for children, free champagne for adults and an ice cream van for both. The Club bar and restaurant will be serving drinks and food all day and whilst picnics are encouraged please enjoy all that the club has to offer as they generously give us the ground for free. A jug of Pimms or some afternoon tea might well worthwhile buying at the club.
Our thanks go to Carol Lorenz, an independent Herbalife distributor, as the main sponsor and whose team will be on hand to provide free health assessments and in many cases rehabilitation advice. Lanson once again have kindly sponsored the champagne and a free glass will be available to spectators at tea time.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
