Cricketer Cup Hall of Fame Team of the 1980s

The Cricketer Cup continued its plans to induct players into its Hall of Fame by inducting the ‘Team of the 1980s’ at a reception during the recent final. Those inducted had all excelled primarily in that decade while sometimes having Cricketer Cup appearances in the decades before and after.

Not all of those inducted could attend at the final. Colin Cook (OMTs) lives in Australia, while Richard Boys-Stones (Shrewsbury Saracens), Nick Kemp (Old Tonbridgians) and Hugh Wilson (Old Wellingtonians) were also not present. Those who attended were Peter Clare-Hunt (Old Malvernians), Robin Dyer (Old Wellingtonians), Tim Lamb (Shrewsbury Saracens), Peter Mills (Oundle Rovers), David Price (Old Malvernians), David Stewart (Uppingham Rovers), Anthony Wreford (Charterhouse Friars) and Hedley Wright (Repton Pilgrims)..

Mills, Cook, Dyer and Stewart were selected as batsmen; Clare-Hunt was the wicket-keeper; Kemp, Price, Wright came into the all-rounder category; and Lamb, Boys-Stones, Wilson and Wreford were the bowlers.

it was a decade in which Oundle Rovers won the Cup three times and there were single wins for Marlborough Blues, Charterhouse Friars, Old Wykehamists, Repton Pilgrims, Old Tonbridgians, Old Malvernians and Shrewsbury Saracens.
