Not quite an umpiring first

Fiona Leighton umpired the Old Wellingtonian s v Old Bedfordians match on Sunday. We thought this might be the first woman umpire to stand in a Cricketer Cup game, but research suggests that Elizabeth Haynes stood in a match in 1998 between Old Tonbridgians and OMTs. There may even be others. Anyway it was great to have Fiona umpiring and we hope to see her in later rounds. By the way, the game was played at Wellington and not Lord’s!
