Bye Rounds Completed

Yesterday saw the completion of the three remaining bye rounds in the 2025 Beechbrook Capital Cricketer Cup. Marlborough Blues defeated Downside Wanderers the previous weekend at Marlborough.

At Wellington, the home side was emphatically rolled over by Harrow Wanderers who won by 8 wickets. Wellington made 131 in 31 overs with Charlie Nelson taking 4-25. Oliver Ebsworth-Burland was top score with 54. Harrow knocked of the runs in only 17 overs, C Stone topscoring with 57. Harrow now go to Stowe in the first round.

At Felsted, Old Bedfordians beat the Robins by 3 wickets after bowling them out for 201. R. Hussain top-scored for Felsted with 58, and there were 3 wickets each for Shiv Patel and M. Hunt. Bedford reached 169-3 , but then lost four more wickets in reaching their target. B. Slawinski made 64 not out and Edward Wharton 51 off 44 balls, Travis Hussain taking 3-29 for Felsted. Bedford now travel to Haileybury on 8 June.

At Tonbridge, two young sides from the Old Tonbridgians and Uppingham Rovers had a more competitive game than the final score and result suggested. Tonbridge finished with 311-8 against a spirited Rovers seam attack. Opener Freddie Geffen top-scored with 95 before being run out, Sam Hadfield made 48 and Will Nolan 41 not out. In reply the Rovers faced a stiff challenge against the pace of former Oxford and Notts seamer Toby Pettman, who took 2-23 off his 8 overs. Most of their batsmen reached double figures, Harry Funnell making 48 and Liam Tew 43, but they lacked the big innings which was needed against such a score. The game was watched by Paul Shea, an Old Tonbridgian whose company Beechbrook Capital are the new sponsors of the Cricketer Cup. Tonbridge now host Brighton in the first round on 8 June.
